Kodak Tri-X 400 works the scene

Having stumbled across a small city park & rest area nestled between office and hotel blocks I decided to “work the scene” and shoot an entire roll of Kodak Tri-X without leaving the vicinity. Here are my impressions.

I usually go for photo walks with a general theme (and film type) in mind and see what I come across that might be interesting, whether a subject or composition. I rarely spend a long time in the same place, where one really focuses on different compositions within a relatively small space: “working the scene”, as they it is sometimes called. Usually this type of approach seems multiple shots and angles of the same scene, then picking the best one to print. I have somewhat emulated that here but instead of taking the same scene I have spent the whole roll of film walking around a relatively small area in search of interesting shapes and compositions.

This post will be less about commentary and more about the photos, I will post my observations at the end of the photo gallery. All shots were taken on a single roll of Kodak Tri-X 400 film, shot on a Leica camera with a 50mm f2 lens and a yellow filter.

Overall observations

I’m really happy with how this set of photographs came out, and most of them were “keepers”. What I enjoyed the most though was simply walking around a relatively confined space looking for interesting compositions. It really forces you to slow down, take a deep breath, and fully take in your surroundings. It always surprises me how many “good photograph opportunities” I see when I am relaxed and take my time looking at things properly. One of my favourite shots is the cover shot of the feathers in the shadows, something I would have not seen had I not been relaxed and just on the lookout within this confined space.

I hope you enjoyed these shots and it shows you there are photographic opportunities all around us! Here is to a bit of ‘zen’ and relaxation too, we all need a bit of that now!

Thanks as always for stopping by!
